What You Will Do: You will be part of our Fort Lauderdale Construction Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) team helping manage and deliver successful projects while performing field inspection, verify compliance with the plans and specifications, prepare pay estimates, and produce project documentation for municipal, county, FDOT and federal projects. This position will provide you with an opportunity for a hands-on field learning environment as to build a technical and construction knowledge foundation for your career and work in an enjoyable and challenging work environment.

As a Construction Staff Engineer, you will:

  • Assist with the field inspection, surveying, materials testing and construction documentation for FDOT highway and municipal construction projects, including FDOT Roadway and FDOT Bridge projects.
  • Specific tasks that you will perform include Inspection, contract administration, quantity and cost estimates, material certification, and project management.
  • You will learn the industry by attending weekly meetings and having daily interactions with contractors, owners, and project stakeholders.
  • The project will balance field work with office administration with an approximate balance of 70% field inspection and 30% office administration.
  • You will be reporting directly to Florida Registered Professional Engineers which would provide the necessary years of experience toward Professional Engineering Licensure.
  • Work on various construction administration project throughout South Florida.

What You Will Bring: The successful candidate must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or similar degree such as a Construction Management from an accredited US school.
  • Florida EIT is highly recommended or a plan to attain Florida EIT Licensure in the near future.
  • High command of the English language in a professional setting including writing professional emails, professional Word / Excel reports, and clear verbal communication.  
  • Seeking 1-4 years of experience in Construction or a related field is preferred.
  • You will have the ability to prepare, read and understand construction plans and technical documents and have a functional understanding of construction administration
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic will allow you to excel in this position.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. 

You must be comfortable working in most Florida weather conditions and either daytime work or nighttime work. Due to the physical nature of the work, you must be able to lift 50 lbs. to 75 lbs. periodically. You are required to work with your hands, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for inspection purposes. At times you may be working at or on uneven terrain, slopes, in confined spaces, in reinforced trenches or on an aerial platform and you will be adjacent to live traffic.
